Contact with electrical lines or equipment can cause severe injury or death, and we strongly encourage your workers take this FREE public safety course on how to be safe around energized equipment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

  • General construction; demolition, maintenance etc.  

Course Duration: Approx. 2 hours

Learn the basics of how electricity behaves and how to spot overhead and undergrounds hazards. Find out how to plan your work and carry it out in a safe manner. Discover what to do if your equipment makes contact with a power line. Learn how to meet WorkSafeBC requirements for working near high-voltage lines.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basics of electricity and BC Hydro's Power System

  • Identify the hazards of working around overhead and underground power lines

  • Explain how to plan and conduct work when working near electrical hazards

  • Describe the immediate action required in the event that

    • equipment makes contact with a power line​

    • a worker needs to escape from an energized area

    • work is being performed near a downed power line

    • who to contact regarding a downed power line 

* This course may be provided in-person at your work location, or virtually via ZOOM. Complete the form below to coordinate a training session. Minimum 3 workers, to a maximum of 20 workers per session.
